2009 Will Be The (Real) Year Of FMC
By Greg Galitzine, Group Editorial Director
Agito Networks (News - Alert), Inc. makes its living in the enterprise mobility space. Delivering an enterprise fixed mobile convergence (eFMC) platform designed to enable enterprises to extend voice and Unified Communications to cell phones, Agito Networks enables low-cost in-building voice coverage, reduced cellular costs, improved enterprise visibility and control over cellular usage, and better accessibility and responsiveness for mobile workers.
Last month, Agito’s RoamAnywhere Mobility Router won honors at the Cisco (News - Alert) IP Telecommunications User Group (CIPTUG) 2008 Annual Conference as one of the best products showcased driving Unified Communications.
And, in November of this year, the company named former Veraz Networks (News - Alert) executive Amit Chawla as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
The company’s co-founder and vice president of Marketing Pejman Roshan (News - Alert) took some time to respond to a set of questions for TMCnet.
GG: When you look back on 2008, was it a good year for your company?
PR: 2008 was an excellent year for Agito — we started making money. After launching the company at the end of 2007, we began shipping our mobile UC product in Q1 and quickly began reaping the rewards of the product’s innovation and feature differentiation. We also further solidified our partnerships from years previous, and closed on some new ones.
GG: What was your firm’s biggest achievement last year?
PR: The biggest achievement in 2008 was the traction the company gained with customers, and equipment and carrier partners. For example, Agito’s FMC technology was selected over competing solutions by Cisco Systems for its Mobility Services Engine, and we earned certification with Avaya (News - Alert) PBXs (we are a Gold level partner), as well as Cisco Unified Communication Manager PBXs (we are a Cisco Technology Develop Partner).
GG: What can we expect to see from your company for the next 12 months?
PR: In 2009, Agito will expand its presence to address unmet FMC needs overseas. We will also ship new releases of Agito’s RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, with important UC function differentiation demanded by customers which will further distance Agito from the pack.
GG: Do you think a new administration in Washington, D.C. will be good for the communications industry? If so, how? If not, why not?
PR: The new administration will be good for all industries, especially communications. It will take some time, but the investments being made will serve the communications industry well in the years to come. In the meantime, the clear ROI and cost savings benefits RoamAnywhere delivers will continue to give Agito an advantage over companies which are struggling at this time.
GG: In your view, please describe the future of the IP Communications industry?
PR: IP communications will remain critical to organizations. Now more than ever, collaboration is crucial to enterprises looking to become and stay agile and competitive. Solutions such as Unified Communications will be incomplete and rendered useless unless they incorporate mobility. Workers are increasingly relying on mobile phones, and enterprises recognize this, and are planning accordingly — by integrating mobiles into the enterprise.
GG: How do the current market conditions affect your potential customers? Do you think they will hold off on purchasing new solutions or do you think the economic conditions will spur them to make purchases that will allow them to be more competitive?
PR: Across the diverse set of markets where Agito sells its product, some industries have slowed while others continue to seek innovative solutions which deliver clear benefits and cost savings during this economic turmoil. Enterprises do value the cost savings (both direct and indirect) that mobile UC brings them.
GG: What sets your company’s solutions apart from the competition?
PR: Agito’s RoamAnywhere delivers the deepest set of capabilities identified by customers as most critical for their UC systems — including high-availability, redundancy, integration into existing PBXs and UC infrastructure, and the broadest IP-PBX and handset support.
GG: If you had to make one bold prediction for 2009, what would it be?
PR: Despite the economy, mobility requirements will continue to rise, and 2009 will be the real year of FMC.
