Mobile Analytics Provider Motally Acquired By Nokia

Nokia (News - Alert) recently signed an agreement to acquire Motally (News - Alert) Inc., a privately-held, U.S.-based company that specializes in tracking and reporting usage statistics on mobile websites and applications. Motally’s mobile analytics service is designed to help developers and publishers optimize the development of their mobile applications through increased understanding of user engagement. Motally’s tools can help identify carrier, user location, commonly used phones and application usage.

Nokia plans to adapt the service for cross platform application, the Qt user interface framework, operating systems Symbian (News - Alert) and Meego and Java. As per the agreement, Motally will continue to serve their existing customer base.

“The acquisition underpins Nokia's drive to deliver in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi's growing, global eco-system of developers and publishers, enabling partners to better connect with their customers and optimize and monetize their offering,” said Marco Argenti, vice president, media, at Nokia.

Although the buy-out value was not released by nokia, the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during the third quarter of 2010.

According to its website, Motally's tools are compatible with Apple's iPad and iPhone, Research In Motion's Blackberry phones and Android (News - Alert)-based smartphones.
