Yougetitback.com Focuses on Ensuring You Get Back Your Lost Device

As much as we have come to rely on our smartphones, laptops and other electronic devices, what do we do if the device is suddenly gone? Do we have any chance at getting the device returned if it is lost? Can a thief access our information if it is stolen?

To give an idea of the potential to not only protect your information, but also increase the likelihood that you can get a lost device back, Yougetitback.com has introduced a new solution.

To discuss this solution and its possibilities, Ciaran O'Sullivan, vice president of Sales visited the TMC media booth at CTIA (News - Alert) 2010 for an interview captured in this video.

The Yougetitback.com solution recovers lost devices like laptops and cell phones. As O'Sullivan puts it, the solution, "makes it really easy for good people to get it back to you and makes it really hard for bad people to use something that doesn't belong to them."

If a device is lost, the user can go online and activate the application to lock the device, a protection proven virtually impossible to overcome. This piece ensures data kept the on the device cannot be accessed by anyone else. At the same time, the user can go online and remotely delete the data.

If an individual finds the lost device, he or she will interact with the Yougetitback.com company and not the individual, protecting identity of both the person who lost the device and the individual who made the find.

While the application will work on all laptops, it will not work on the iPhone (News - Alert). It does support all other major platforms. Users can take advantage of the universal solution that will work on any platform as it does not have to be installed.

"We had a guy lose something on the beach one day and a guy found it and they called us up and asked us what they wanted to do with it," said O'Sullivan. They called the owner and asked him if he was at the beach and he was surprised they knew he was at the beach. "30 percent of the time, people have found things before the person realizes they lost it."

As for what is next for Yougetitback.com, the company is rolling out their platform through direct sales and several retail channels in the next 3-6 months. In such environments, when a phone or laptop is purchased, customers will be offered the service as an add-on at a minimal cost.
