Google to Add Social Media Features to Gmail � This Week?

We hear Gmail is undergoing another upgrade, this time to include a content-sharing feature and status updates – just like Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter.
 
The Wall Street Journal reported that Google (News - Alert) is preparing to unveil a new Gmail module that will incorporate status updates from people that a Gmail user chooses to connect with, plus content from YouTube (News - Alert), Picasa and other sources. However, it’s still unclear as to whether Facebook or Twitter updates will be included in the mix.
 
Thus, the new feature will make it easier and faster for users of Gmail to view media and status updates shared by their friends, WSJ reported.

A few tech bloggers are predicting Google will make its announcement as soon as tomorrow.
 
Already, Yahoo Mail has a feature that allows users to see the status of their friends. And through Gmail’s chat feature, users can see whether other Gmail users are available to chat.
