Stratos Adds New Service to MobileLink Line of Fixed-to-Mobile Calling Services

Stratos Global Corporation, a provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, reportedly announcedthe expansion of its line of fixed-to-mobile calling services – MobileLink with the addition of new MobileLink Easy service.

 

The company’s value added service, MobileLink, now includes three services, namely - MobileLink Easy, MobileLink Secure, formerly known as Stratos (News - Alert) MobileLink, and MobileLink Flex, formerly known as Stratos 2-Stage Access.

 

According to Stratos, all the three services will facilitate speedy, affordable connectivity from fixed locations to Inmarsat (News - Alert) and Iridium mobile satellite terminals. These services reduce fixed-to-mobile calling costs by avoiding high tariffs charged by local telephone companies. The savings can be leveraged when calling a satellite phone.

 

“Stratos MobileLink services eliminate the high, direct-dial rates charged by local telephone operators, while maintaining the highest possible call quality,” Jim Parm, president and CEO at Stratos, said in a press release. “This service reflects Stratos' ongoing commitment to help companies maintain effective communications at the lowest possible cost.”

 

Stratos’ fixed-to-mobile/shore-to-ship voice service not only helps in controlling satellite communication costs, but is also capable of providing voice solution - to those countries where the local telephone operator cannot access the Inmarsat satellite network, or in areas where direct dialing is prohibitively expensive.

 

In addition, it can support all satellite phone services provided by Stratos operating in any marine, aeronautical, or remote land-based environment.

 

Stratos MobileLink Easy is the newest of the three services. It is well suited for companies that may dial a single satellite phone or group of phones, on a regular basis. It facilitates such companies to dial a predefined landline number, in order to directly connect with the satellite terminal.

 

The second service, Stratos MobileLink Secure, as the name suggests, provides an additional layer of protection against unauthorized usage. This service provides an access code - for each satellite terminal – that has to be provided after dialing the pre-defined landline number, thereby providing security.

 

Stratos MobileLink Flex, the third service in the family, facilitates the company to call any of its satellite terminals - by simply dialing the individual satellite telephone number. Access code facility is also provided for security reasons.

 

Users leveraging these services will have to dial into the Stratos MobileLink platform and then follow the voice-prompt instructions, in order to connect with the desired mobile destination.

 

Stratos MobileLink’s ready-to-use solution also offers fixed-to-mobile service for fax communications. The fax communication facility is available using a specific dial string setup.

 

Apart from providing voice service for Iridium (News - Alert) and Inmarsat-B, M, the MobileLink line of services also provide voice solution for mini-M, Fleet, FleetBroadband, Swift64, SwiftBroadband, GAN, BGAN, ISPS, and MarineSat/LandSat services from Stratos. All Stratos MobileLink calls appear on one monthly statement, showing calls by Access Code.

 

Customers from the U.K., North America, Argentina, Uruguay, Hong Kong, and selected cities in Russia receive toll-free access, as well, Stratos officials said.
