Walmart's Smart Phone Promotion Allows Customers to Save for the Holidays

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

While the upcoming holidays are ideally thought of as a time for families and friends to come together and share in the festivities, this season’s are forecasted to be a bit different this year, due to the current economic recession. However, for many, the holidays are a costly and expensive occasions, as presents can rack up those credit cards, and empty those wallets.

Going green is one way to save on expenses while also helping create a more environmentally friendly season. And, a recent announcement from Walmart offers another light at the end of the tunnel for holiday shoppers.

Greg Hall, vice president Media Services, Walmart U.S., said that the company understands that customers – especially this season – are focused on value.

In another round of its promised weekly efforts to save shoppers more on holiday purchases this fall, Walmart is offering a one-week promotion for holiday shoppers starting their shopping early this year.

“We have promised each week to deliver new savings to help them stretch their dollars this holiday season,” Hall said. “With our expansion of Walmart Wireless products over the last year, we look forward to providing an exciting offer on our BlackBerry (News - Alert) assortment and give cellular customers an extra boost on holiday needs.”

Beginning Nov. 14, any customer purchasing a BlackBerry from AT&T, Spring, T-Mobile (News - Alert) or Verizon Wireless will receive an $100 Walmart gift card at purchase, to use on a later transaction. Not only are Blackberry phones significantly cheaper at a Walmart, but the extra $100 is an added bonus that customers can use for holiday shopping at a later date.

According to research group Canalys, smart phones continue to shine as one of the brightest spots of the technology industry, with shipments growing despite the recession.

However, price continues to be a key decision factor in the purchase of a cell phone device. But, with Walmart’s lower prices and gift certificate incentive, customers can feel better knowing there’s financial plus on their end.

Starting Saturday, Nov. 14 at 8 am through Nov. 20, customers will receive a $100 Walmart Gift Card with the purchase of any of the following BlackBerry devices with a two-year contract, at Walmart's everyday low prices:

·         AT&T (News - Alert) Curve 8310
·         AT&T Bold 9000
·         Sprint (News - Alert) Curve 8330 (Red & Titanium colors)
·         T-Mobile 8520 (Black, White, and Frost)
·         T-Mobile Pearl 8120 (Emerald)
·         Verizon (News - Alert) Storm
·         Verizon Storm II

The offer is found online for the upcoming promotional week.

BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System (BlackBerry MVS) BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System (BlackBerry MVS) converges office desk phones and BlackBerry® smartphones, allowing users to access standard enterprise voice features whether at their desks or on the go*. BlackBerry MVS encompasses BlackBerry® MVS Client software for BlackBerry smartphones, BlackBerry MVS Services of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, and the Ascendent Voice Mobility Suite.

With BlackBerry MVS, BlackBerry smartphone users can access enterprise desk phone options directly from the menu interface of the BlackBerry phone application, while at the same time securely authenticating to the organization’s enterprise telephony system (PBX). BlackBerry MVS also gives IT administrators the control to set voice policies on the BlackBerry smartphone, so that inbound and outbound calls use the enterprise line. This allows for all mobile calls to be logged or recorded for compliance with regulatory or corporate standards.
