Smart Telecom Brings EVDO-BlackBerry Curve to Indonesia

Smart Telecom, a national cellular operator, and Research In Motion have launched the EVDO-enabled BlackBerry (News - Alert) Curve 8330 smartphone in Indonesia.

Smart Telecom will offer the BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone with two service plan options to offer customers unlimited Internet and e-mail access on Smart’s network.

Officials with Smart Telecom say there is "no condition on subscriber type, prepaid and postpaid customers" are welcome.

The service also allows subscribers unlimited video streaming, access to instant messaging services such as BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger and Google (News - Alert) Talk, and social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

Activating BlackBerry service from the BlackBerry Curve 8330 requires users to send an SMS to 2233 with the text “ON Hemat30” for monthly service or “ON Hemat1” for daily service. To deactivate, users can send an SMS with the text “OFF” to 2233.

CDMA customers "in our country, for the first time," will get the BlackBerry platform "on our network,” says Tom Alamas Dinharsa, dead of Device Technology & Special Projects, PT Smart Telecom.

TMC’s Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) recently blogged that Blackberry users can "now quickly and immediately jump on and off over 100,000 hotspots around the world without the painful process of entering a user name and password."

Boingo, a global provider of WiFi (News - Alert) service, "has become a friend while I am on the road.," Tehrani writes: "The company provided me an account over a year ago and since then I have been able to enjoy rapid access to hotspots in hotels, around town and in airports all over the world. I consider this type of service a must have for anyone who wants to stay connected to broadband networks on the go."
