Motorola Helps Vinaphone to Launch Vietnam's First 3G Service

Using the network infrastructure from Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business, Vinaphone, a subsidiary of Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) Group, has launched the first commercial 3G service in Vietnam. The contract was awarded in August and the network was upgraded in just two months, announced Motorola (News - Alert).

In August this year, Motorola deployed its home and networks mobility business for Vinaphone. According to the contract, Vinaphone was able to provide high speed mobile data services in northern Vietnam including key areas of the capital city, Hanoi. Motorola has also completed an open tender to win the key Northern areas of Vinaphone’s 3G network.

The new network delivers advanced high-speed mobile data services in northern Vietnam including key areas of the capital city, Hanoi. This will help Vinaphoe to capture more business opportunities in the growing mobile data communications market by differentiating its services, claims Motorola. Vinaphone states that the company is impressed with Motorola’s ability to rollout the upgrade in such a short time along with the quality of technology and services delivered.

“With our advanced technology and the skill and dedication of our services team, the first phase of the project was completed in only two months.” said Dr. Ray Owen (News - Alert), general director of Motorola Viet Nam, in a release. “As a result, Vinaphone is the first operator to launch a commercial 3G service in Viet Nam, making this another notable example of Motorola’s capabilities in both 3G technology and services.”

Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business caters to the full value chain of mobile and entertainment service providers and includes various products, tools and support. It provides radio access solutions deployed in more than 160 active networks encompassing WiMAX (News - Alert), 3GPP, 3GPP2 and iDEN.

Vinaphone believes Motorola has played a key role in the success of its network. Being the first company market 3G service in Vietnam, Vinaphone will now be able to offer high-speed mobile data services to subscribers ahead of competitors.
