Fring Wins GSMA's Mobile Innovation Grand Prix Tournament Award

Fring, an Israel-based GSM solutions provider, reportedly announced that it won the ‘Most Consumer Application or Service’ award at the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix-Israel Tournament. The company edged out other shortlisted finalists including Meemix Ltd of Israel, Waze of Israel, and Tune Wiki from the U.S.
Fring’s victory at the GSMA (News - Alert) sponsored Mobile Innovation Grand Prix is seen as a testimony to its commitment to its goal to provide mobile rich communication technological solutions and its subsequent acceptance by service providers and manufacturers, alike. This was akin to enjoying positive industry opinion for their offerings.
This award was constituted by the GSMA, which is a central body that has been formulated to represent the interests of the global mobile communications industry. The GSMA provides a forum to more than 800 service providers and 200 enterprises in the mobile ecosystem spread more than 219 countries for innovating, ideating and generating fresh opportunities targeted at driving the growth engine in the mobile communications industry.
To be eligible for participation in the regional legs of the Mobile Innovation Grand Prix, innovators must obtain membership of the GSMA’s Mobile Innovation Exchange. This is a Web-based community that fosters dialogue on promoting the cause of mobile innovation by building on the popularity of the regional events.
The GSMA Global Mobile Awards is one of the foremost international awards, which seek to demonstrate the superiority of the product, quality of service and creative excellence in its relevance in the mobile industry.  They also consider small and medium entrepreneurs who launch innovative and fresh offerings and require industry assistance for easy deployment. The Israel leg of this event was conducted by the GSMA in association with Israeli venture capital firm, Carmel Ventures.
Ten global companies were shortlisted and they competed in three major categories-Most Innovative Carrier Infrastructure or VAS Platform, Most Innovative Consumer Application or Service and Most Innovative Enterprise Application or Service. Finalists were subjected to a review by a panel of senior executives from mobile service providers and venture capital firms. The two overall winners were accorded the opportunity to undertake a trip to the Global Mobile Innovation Grand Prix Finals at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) at Barcelona in 2010.
