Mushroom Networks Offers Second Generation Wireless Broadband Bonding for SMBs

Mushroom Networks, a provider of broadband bonding technology, is targeting the small and medium business market with its latest wireless Broadband Bonding appliance, which reportedly offers a fast wireless Internet connection where cellular coverage is available.

The San Diego-based company today announced its second-generation wireless Broadband Bonding appliance called PortaBella. The technology combines up to four cellular data cards from multiple providers into a single high-speed shared connection.

Mushroom Networks (News - Alert) said the application is ideal for SMBs in the news-gathering agencies, mobile TV broadcasting, military, and emergency response, transportation, point-of-sale kiosk and digital signage connectivity markets.

The PortaBella fits inside your palm and weighs just over one pound. It combines up to four USB based cellular wireless data cards to offer a wired broadband experience without the wires, the company said. In addition, the technology comes with an optional battery pack to make it portable. The PortaBella appliance enables true bonding over various wireless Internet access technologies, even from different providers, the company said.

Dr. Cahit Akin (News - Alert), co-founder and chief executive officer of Mushroom Networks – interviewed by TMCnet earlier this month – said the technology can be used in just about any location, such as a taxi cab, bus, or train. It can even be deployed in areas impacted by a natural disaster, he said.

“Our technology is truly a game changer not only for the enterprise and sales teams but for anyone requiring a portable instant connection to the net such as temporary construction sites, mobile news teams streaming live video, or maritime,” Akin said in a statement.

The latest application is part of Mushroom Network’s ongoing focus to target small and medium-sized businesses with the technology. Last fall, the company first introduced PortaBella.

Earlier last year, the company launched its Porcini broadband bonding network appliance, also aimed at small and medium businesses. The Porcini device can integrate up to four broadband Internet connections of any type including DSL, cable, and T1 into a single virtual high-speed link. An additional USB port enables a fifth cellular data modem connection to be added to the overall mix, TMCnet reported.

Recently, Mushroom Networks announced it was teaming up Semo.net, a Midwest Internet provider, to deliver high-speed, bi-directional broadband service to its business class customers. As TMCnet reported, the service offers business customers different types of broadband connections such as DSL, cable modem, or wireless into a single high-speed connection with near 100 percent reliability.
