Porter Novelli: Businesses Should Harness Mobile Technology

Global public relations giant Porter Novelli has announced the release of its latest report “Mobile Lives & Times.” Part of Porter Novelli's (News - Alert) Intelligent Dialogue series, this report explores the opportunities and challenges due to the changes in mobile technology.

Mobile Lives & Times tracks mobile technology's hottest trends and examines the impact they are making on industries, people and the government.
People like to be mobile and prefer flexible devices, according to Porter Novelli CEO Gary Stockman. Industry players must understand the benefits and drawbacks of a fast-paced mobile world so that they can be ready for an even bigger mobile revolution.

This report indicates that around 58 percent of the world's population has an active mobile subscription and this number has quadrupled in just the past six years. Location-based services offer huge potential to marketers for learning about customers and increase marketing intelligence. However, they must not be very intrusive or annoying.

Mobile has been identified as a stepping stone for developing countries and experts see health care behind the mobility curve. Teleworking is also becoming popular as both employee and employer find it to be convenient and cost-effective.

The research shows that true device innovators thus far have been relative outsiders to the telecom game. The report also notes the widespread intrusive mobility that has driven people and organizations to think about new codes of behavior. People have become more aware and concerned about their privacy, confidentiality and personal safety.

“The 'Mobile Lives & Times' report gauges mobile technology's hold on how we live day to day from a personal standpoint, as well as mobility's effects on broader issues such as globalization, the economy, the health care industry, privacy, safety and more,” said Porter Novelli Chief Marketing Officer Marian Salzman.
