IVT Intros Bluetooth 3.0 Commercial Stack for Intel Moblin and Google Android Platforms

IVT, a Beijing, China-based provider of Bluetooth software, recently introduced Bluetooth V3.0+HS commercial stack for Linux-based Moblin (from Intel) and Android (News - Alert) (from Google) platforms. The company also announced that the Bluetooth 3.0, which features alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) technique of data transferring, will be the foundation of upcoming BlueSoleil 7.0 release.

In general, Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol that is extensively used for exchanging data over short distances from device to device - by creating personal area networks (PANs). Having a very small code size, the Bluetooth technology is ideal for embedded applications, including mobile applications and desktop applications. It supports multi-OS, multiple Bluetooth silicon and almost all Bluetooth profiles. The latest version, Bluetooth 3.0 was adopted by Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Media Alliance on April 21st, 2009.

Bluetooth 3.0 standard is built upon its previous standards. The latest version features AMP (alternate MAC/PHY) and unicast connectionless data. The AMP is a technique of transferring data and is suitable for devices that have both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (802.11) radios on board. The AMP leverages Bluetooth's protocols, profiles, security, and other architectural elements and transfers data using Wi-Fi radio. In other words, pairing of devices is done using Bluetooth technology, but file transfers take place using the Wi-Fi hardware layer. This dual technology usage helps in faster transmission of data as well as saves power, according to Bluetooth SIG.

In 1999, IVT released the first commercial Bluetooth host protocol stack. Since then, IVT is actively involved in developing the Bluetooth standards on a number of Bluetooth Technical Working groups. The company claims that it has been recognized by the Bluetooth SIG as a major contributor on developing the latest Bluetooth technology.

IVT is now developing the new version of its BlueSoleil 7.0 multi-wireless connection manager, based on Bluetooth V3.0+HS stack, according to sources. The BlueSoleil application software facilitates user’s Bluetooth radio enabled desktop or notebook computer to wirelessly access a wide variety of Bluetooth enabled digital devices, such as mobile phones, stereo/mono headsets, keyboard and mouse, camera, printers, GPS devices, PDAs and more. It can run on Window 2000, XP, Vista and Window 7, Moblin and Android platforms.

Currently, MIDs from Compal and BENQ are shipped with Linux version of IVT’s BlueSoleil.

IVT officials said that the company can offer the ANSI C source code of its Bluetooth host stack and all profiles. The company claimed that it is Intel's (News - Alert) mobile Internet device (MID) global Bluetooth solution provider for Moblin open source Linux stack, since 2008.

Till date, IVT claims that it has filed 48 invention patents in China, in which 19 patents have been granted.
