Socket Mobile Adds Broadband Access to SoMo 650 Handheld Computer

Socket Mobile, Inc. a provider of mobile productivity solutions announced the availability of its SoMo 650 Back Pack Broadband ExpressCard Adapter. The company works with integrators, 3rd party software developers and OEMs to deliver mobile products which increase the efficiency and productivity of the mobile workforce.

The Back Pack can be fixed to the back of a SoMo 650 handheld computer. It is a suitable interface for using a broadband network Express Card enabling data transfer directly to and from the SoMo 650 handheld computer over a broadband network.

Network operators including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T (News - Alert), T-Mobile and all GSM-based network operators worldwide using pre-certified and approved Novatel Wireless ExpressCards will be supported.

Light weight, durable and designed ergonomically, the Back Pack is flexible enough to allow the usage of ExpressCard Wide Area Network (WAN) modem card catering to specific broadband network requirements. It can also work with other SoMo accessories including the plug-in data collection and communication peripherals, the hand strap and the tethered stylus.

The SoMo 650 Back Pack is most suitable for on- and off- campus environments keeping people connected to critical business applications and systems. It also provides connectivity required in remote areas, home healthcare, field services and sales.

“We’re seeing more of our customers in situations where occasional broadband WAN connectivity is a requirement for conducting business in an efficient, productive manner,” said Kevin Mills, CEO of Socket Mobile. “The availability of the Back Pack expands the connectivity options of the SoMo 650, and delivers the functionality our customers demand.”

Socket enhances mobile computing and increases its productivity. Socket supplies mobile computing hardware systems and its handheld mobile computer is designed for business mobility. The company also provides an extensive portfolio of essential mobile data collection and networking peripherals which improve mobile automation.

The company said that the SoMo 650 Back Pack will be available at the end of April in both standard and antimicrobial versions. The broadband ExpressCard is however not included with the Pack and has to be bought separately from network operators.
