LG Adds GyPSii's Mobile Social Network to its Mobile Phones

LG Electronics has entered into a partnership with GeoSentric (News - Alert) Oyj’s GyPSii business unit, wherein a variety of new mobile devices will be embedded with GyPSii’s location-enabled mobile digital lifestyle application.

For marketers looking to reach a specific section of society, services such as GyPSii’s location-enabled mobile digital lifestyle application will be extremely helpful by allowing them to target specific audiences and increase their revenues. This also helps them to reduce advertising costs as they don’t have to advertise to a large and unnecessary user base.

According to the agreement, LG Electronics (News - Alert) mobile customers will have access to GyPSii’s broad range of location-aware functions and mobile lifestyle services within a single, easy to navigate user interface. This provides features such as user generated content sharing, friend finding and social networking application, and the ability to view it all on a map.

“As demand for Social Networking and Navigation on the mobile phone increases, it is vital that these services form an essential element of the LG customer offering on our new devices,” said DooWhan (Paul) Sang, Vice President of LG Electronics.

“With its impressive global infrastructure and market reach, GyPSii is clearly leading the way in the mobile social networking space.”

According to the agreement, both LG Electronics and GyPSii will share advertising and sponsorship revenues generated by users of GyPSii on the new LG devices. The service will be first introduced with the Windows Mobile operating system, and later introduced on Android (News - Alert) and JAVA-enabled devices. The service will be provided in partnership with Intrinsyc, LG’s navigation solution provider.

Looking to continue its good business in 2008, LG also announced it will continue to focus on customer service, sustainability and product innovation in 2009. LG's 2009 North American strategy includes new Smart HDTV technologies with wireless capabilities and improved picture quality as well as more Network Blu-ray Disc Players and Blu-ray-based Home Theater Systems.
