Ubiquisys, Percello Deliver Next-Gen Residential and Business Femtocells

3G Femtocells (News - Alert) supplier Ubiquisys and Percello, a UMTS/LTE femtocell SoC vendor, have teamed to integrate SoC technology into the Ubiquisys (News - Alert) ZoneGate femtocell. As a strategic supplier to Ubiquisys, Percello will open up a new semiconductor supply channel for the company.

A femtocell is a small cellular access point that connects to the service provider’s network through the consumer’s DSL, cable or fiber optic broadband connection allowing them to extend service coverage and capacity indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable.

Both Ubiquisys and Percello already share a business relationship and have been working together since January 2008. Percello aims to ensure that their low-cost high-performance baseband processor fully supports the advanced functions of the ZoneGate femtocell that are a pre-requisite for commercial mass deployment.

Ubiquisys is the specialist femtocell company recently recognized by the World Economic Forum as a 2009 Technology Pioneer. Ubiquisys CEO Chris Gilbert (News - Alert) appreciates Percello’s PRC6000 that offers high levels of integration and performance, supports their femtocell’s advanced features, and does all this with low power consumption and at the right price.

“We are delighted to be working with a company of Percello’s calibre as femtocells enter the mass deployment phase,” he added.

Percello, a fabless semiconductor company, provide digital baseband solutions to the challenges of the 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA+/LTE (News - Alert) femtocells market: cost, power, level of integration, development time and flexibility.

“I am glad that the investment of the T-Mobile (News - Alert) Venture Fund in both companies led to such an efficient type of collaboration,” said Joachim Horn, T-Mobile CTO and member of the Investment Committee of the T-Mobile Venture Fund. “It supports our femtocell strategy and it drives the entire industry forward.”
