T-Mobile Boosts 3G Data Service in Holland with Nextivity Technology

T-Mobile reportedly has selected Nextivity to deploy smart repeater technology in retail stores throughout Netherlands.

In the Netherlands, T-Mobile (News - Alert) owns a mobile network for voice and data services as well as an increasing number of HotSpot locations where users have access to a high speed mobile Internet connection. T-Mobile Netherlands BV is part of T-Mobile International, one of the world’s leading companies in mobile communications.

T-Mobile aims to its boost data rates, as well provide a more consistent experience for customers – even in shops located in buildings with high attenuation losses using Nextivity’s smart repeaters technology. Customers can now enjoy real-world demos of the latest mobile applications on compelling new T-Mobile handsets including the Apple iPhone 3G, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, Nokia (News - Alert) N96, and the Samsung Omnia.

According to Nextivity, Smart Repeaters are carrier-grade devices that are designed to eliminate in-building dead zones and work in harmony with the cellular macro network. Designed with smart antenna technology and onboard intelligence, smart repeaters continually seek out the best available signal and automatically adjust to any changes in the RF (Radio Frequency) environment in order to maximize the signal gain to the user.

Smart repeaters are designed to protect the integrity of the wireless network while increasing the effective RF capacity of each base station. Smart repeaters can more than triple the data rates experienced by wireless subscribers.

“Most wireless subscribers know firsthand that brick, glass and other architectural elements can degrade the quality of their voice calls and offer less-than-peak data speeds when they are at home or at work,” said Nextivity CEO Werner Sievers. “Our smart repeater technology is designed to overcome the most demanding indoor coverage challenges and increase the effective RF capacity of each base station.”

Nextivity aims to introduce the first smart repeater products powered by its Intelliboost baseband processor in the second quarter of 2009.
