Tellabs Signs Agreements with Verizon to Enhance Global Business
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
Tellabs (News - Alert), a company that designs and manufactures telecommunications equipment for service providers, signed two new agreements with Verizon for wired and wireless network services. The new agreements provide Tellabs with global networking services with its customers, partners and employees.
The first agreement offers Tellabs a global networking solution incorporating Verizon (News - Alert) Private IP, long-distance and Internet services to link more than 3,500 Tellabs employees at 50 sites worldwide.
The second agreement entitles Verizon Wireless as Tellab’s preferred provider for wireless services including account management, billing tools, management of devices including BroadbandAccess PC cards, and other applications, a media statement from the company said.
By accepting the service from Verizon Business (News - Alert), Tellabs is able to use its Ethernet switching and routing technology to link its own network to the global network solution that Verizon Business will deploy for the company, Tellabs said. This will enable Tellabs to meet the growing demands for its Ethernet solutions around the globe.
“The availability of Verizon Business' Private IP service in key global business centers and the reliability of the Verizon Wireless network in the U.S. were critical for us,” said Jean Holley, executive vice president and chief information officer, Tellabs, in a statement. “We were able to work with Verizon as a total business partner to help mobilize our business across wired and wireless network environments to more effectively communicate with our customers, partners and employees,” Holley added.
Verizon Private IP, a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based service, enables Tellabs to improve its key business processes, database management and customer communications, and to control operational costs. Tellabs also leverages Verizon Internet Dedicated service.
To facilitate the communication among Tellabs officials and employees, Verizon Wireless has already deployed 1,300 devices, including BlackBerry (News - Alert) 8830 World Edition and BlackBerry 8330 Pearl from Verizon Wireless.
Tellabs uses Verizon Enterprise Center (VEC), a one-stop global portal, which enables users to access critical information to manage their Verizon Business and Verizon Wireless services using features such as Dashboard.
“Verizon Business' expansive private and public IP footprint is helping to take Tellabs where it wants to go,” said Richard G. Black, senior vice president of corporate accounts for Verizon Business. “Both companies recognize the power of Carrier Ethernet as an important access method and wide-area networking technology. Together, we share a vision of embracing and enabling new business capabilities around the world.”
