A survey released by gadget retailer Future Shop finds a majority of Canadians prefer their mobile phones over private affairs, cameras, books, magazines and computers. Most smartphone users in Canada admitted to using their devices during weddings, funerals and court proceedings.
The survey was conducted by Future Shop in collaboration with Leger Marketing to ascertain Canadians's reliance on mobile devices. Nearly 74% of the respondents acknowledged that they were unable to lead life without their mobile gadgets. While 17% of the respondents admitted the use of mobile phones in the bathroom, 11% of the respondents said they had used their phones at a holy place. Some of the respondents even admitted the use of mobile phones at a job interview.
According to the survey, a significant part of personal communications with siblings, friends, spouses and kids has been replaced by texting, with at least half of the respondents depending on texting as their only mode of communication. The survey also reported that half of the respondents have confessed to breaching cell phone etiquette.
In a release, Phil Johnston, Director, Cellular at Future Shop said, "For 72 per cent of Canadians, their cell phone replaces more than just their landline. Consumer habits are rapidly changing and many are using their wireless devices to simplify their lives. We strive to provide our customers with the ideal products and services to enhance their mobile experience and help them embrace the connected world we live in."
Future Shop has recognized these trends and offers a number of mobile service plans specially designed to meet the needs of every customer. There are also specialist product experts who have been trained by the company to understand the customer’s requirement and suggest an appropriate plan as well as the best handset and accessories.
