A new FCC (News - Alert) requirement has been rolled out that requires all public safety, industrial and business licensees that operate two-way radios to be narrowband compliant. This comes into effect on Jan. 1, 2013. However, this new requirement is being misinterpreted by scammers who are trying to make it appear that everyone operating radios will suffer as these radios will be useless when the deadline is reached.
Ben Burns, CEO of Discount Two-Way Radio was unhappy with these rumors and said that the bad publicity being created is a ploy designed make consumers think they must buy new and expensive digital radios before 2013. He explained that companies or organizations that operate radios that have been purchased by Discount Two-Way Radio have no reason to be worried at all
In a release, Burns said, “What's going on is highway robbery. We're hearing horror stories every day from new customers who are being scared or coerced into buying something they don't need or can't really afford, so we're on a mission to set the record straight. Many vendors and providers in our industry have deliberately confused, misled or resorted to bullying cash-strapped customers who critically depend on two-way radios. They don't have a clue that the only thing that's likely required for the narrowband compliance is a simple reprogramming of the two-way radios they currently use.”
The company will publish and send out regular information during 2012 highlighting what is and is not required by the FCC. Discount Two-Way Radio will also offer a complimentary reprogramming service that will ensure that most radios fall into compliance.
Burns went on to say that, “Most of the radios we've been selling are either already compliant or just need to be reprogrammed for the upcoming change in standards. And Discount Two-Way Radio is doing that for absolutely free. No one wants to feel like they're sending off their radios into some black hole, so we keep people in the loop with regular communications, status updates and more. Whether you need to have three or 300 radios reprogrammed, our goal is to do what needs to be done while providing customers with critical peace of mind.”
