Sandvine Releases Latest Version of Fairshare Traffic Management for Mobile
Ontario, Canada based global provider of network policy control solutions Sandvine (News - Alert) has released the latest version of Fairshare Traffic Management for mobile. Fairshare Traffic Management Version 4.0 offers two new features -- Mobility-Awareness and Dynamic Control System.
The dramatic surge in the number of bandwidth-intensive applications has resulted in unprecedented levels of traffic growth. Traffic growth often creates network congestion that can affect the quality of experience for subscribers. Under this backdrop, service providers are deploying network policy control solutions to ensure best possible quality of experience (QoE) for the maximum number of subscribers over the maximum period of time.
On its website, Sandvine claimed that its Fairshare Traffic Management provides the industry’s most complete solution for ensuring the optimal bandwidth usage per subscriber, consistent with the service provider's subscription packages. According to Sandvine, its Fairshare Traffic Management product has been deployed in over 50 service provider networks worldwide in 2011. The solution is being used to address congestion management across all access technologies.
In its new version, Fairshare Traffic Management introduces a new dynamic control system which measures the achieved network quality and acts to maximize it, Sandvine clarified in a press release.
The latest version of Fairshare Traffic Management interoperates with third-party vendors to offer “mobility awareness,” Sandvine said. The feature is used to identify a moving subscriber’s cell location. The true mobility awareness evaluates the congestion level of the cell and also applies traffic management policies in real-time to alleviate any congestion.
In the release Sandvine claimed that Fairshare Traffic Management 4.0 is the only solution that offers true mobility awareness. In contrast to competing products that only helps identify the initial location where the mobile subscriber’s device connected, Fairshare Traffic Management 4.0 provides subsequent network locations to which the subscriber has moved.
“Sandvine has been a leader in congestion management for the past decade. Our latest version of Fairshare Traffic Management brings a powerful and dynamic congestion control system that works in concert with our policy decision and enforcement capabilities. Operators can cost-effectively manage their mobile networks to deliver optimal performance without resorting to crude approximations such as daily or hourly network-wide traffic management policies,” CTO of Sandvine Don Bowman noted in a statement.
In separate news, Sandvine announced that it had won five new broadband service provider customers.
