Apkudo Debuts New Test Software for Android Devices
February 08, 2012

Apkudo, Inc., a new start-up created by Android (News - Alert), unveiled its new software and services offering, Apkudo Device Analytics, which is software designed to test new Android smartphones and tablets prior to their launch.

As announced, the new Apkudo Device Analytics helps find device and application performance problems before release, helping operators and OEMs launch Android handsets and tablets with greater confidence of commercial success.

"Apkudo Device Analytics helps speed handsets and tablets to market, finding usability problems earlier in acceptance testing," Josh Matthews, chief executive officer at Apkudo said in a press release.

"Testing with Apkudo Device Analytics helps OEMs and operators meet the fragmentation challenge and position new devices to be competitive in the dynamic mobile marketplace," Matthews added.

With Android releasing new apps and devices every month, OEMs and operators are facing the challenge of determining the compatibility of those popular apps on new devices, and their reach to new users. There can be challenges to interoperability and performance through fragmentation. Apkudo Device Analytics addresses this by helping mobile device manufacturers and network operators assess the Android application experience. It delivers comprehensive, detailed test information, highlighting sources of consumer delight and exposing likely causes of subscriber dissatisfaction, characterizing the Android user experience and providing recommendations to enhance it too.

This new software is said to use a mix of core Android system applications and a representative workload of the top 200 apps in the Android Market to test various attributes of the user experience. Tests mimic actual device usage along with performance characteristics and stability. It also makes it easy to interpret multi-faceted test results by creating ratings and ranking based on key device parameters, on absolute scales and relative to other devices on the market.

Back in November 2011, Apkudo launched its App Analytics Platform which lets Android application developers test their software on a comprehensive portfolio of mobile devices. The current launch is said to complement the App test platform.

In another release, Apkudo announced that Dallas-based mobile operator MetroPCS Communications is utilizing Apkudo Device Analytics software for testing new Android smart phones as part of prepping those devices for launch to mobile subscribers.
