A survey conducted by 11mark found that BlackBerry (News
- Alert) uses really believe in multitasking: many users admit to using their devices in the bathroom.
The survey found 84 percent of BlackBerry users had either, made calls, used the Internet, or tweeted while they were in the bathroom.
BlackBerry users were not even in the top spot. Android users were much more likely to have used their phones in the bathroom, with 87 percent of the respondents owning up to doing do.
iPhone (News - Alert) users, on the other hand, may not want to risk getting their beautifully-designed phones dirty of broken. Just 77 percent of users reported using their iPhones in the bathroom at least once.
As for actually taking voice calls in the bathroom, only 67 percent of Android users had done so. On the other hand, 75 percent of BlackBerry users had taken a voice call while doing their business. Again, Apple (News
- Alert) came in last, with only 60 percent of users saying they had taken calls in the bathroom.
Among all brands, however, 63 percent of respondents said they’d answered a phone call in the bathroom, while only 41 percent said they’d initiated one. A quarter of all Americans routinely take their phones into the bathroom with them, apparently not wanting to miss any important messages for even a split second.
The willingness to take a phone in to the lavatory apparently correlates with one’s age. Over 90 percent of “Generation Y” admitted to doing so, followed by 80 percent of Gen. Xers. Older phone users seemed to maintaining some sense of decorum, with only 65 percent of Baby Boomers and 47 percent of older users, respectively, using their phones in the bathroom.
Bathroom mobile use appears to be roughly even across gender, with 74 percent of men and 76 percent of women admitting to doing so.
