Enterasys Unveils OneFabric Edge Architecture
January 31, 2012

Enterasys (News - Alert) Networks announced the unveiling of its OneFabric Edge architecture that is built on the new OneFabric architecture.

In a release Chris Crowell, president and CEO of Enterasys Networks said, “With the explosion in demand for wireless access, we know how integral it has become to every workflow within the organization. In fact, WLAN capabilities are now a top dependency for acquiring new employees for many businesses, with some analysts predicting 75 percent of the workforce will be mobile by 2013.”

The new purpose-built architecture for edge networking is designed to support mobile application delivery. OneFabric Edge combines wired and wireless networks so that enterprises can offer optimized applications to mobile users at any scale.

This will in turn support “Bring Your Own Device” or BYOD initiatives. Also the innovative network architecture enhances user experience and provides security for business-critical applications. OneFabric Edge ensures an end-to-end holistic view of the network and 75 percent lower full-time equivalent (FTE) requirement for SLA management across wired and wireless networks.

“Now with Enterasys OneFabric Edge, end users can consolidate wired and wireless security and management capabilities into a single virtual platform, providing improved simplicity, lower costs, easier deployment, and improved mission-critical reliability. Furthermore, the architecture is extensible to support a broad range of applications, enabling the WLAN infrastructure to integrate with application services platforms,” Crowell added.

By leveraging the capabilities of the OneFabric Edge, customers can extend their center virtualization to the wired and wireless edge besides enhancing user experience of mobile users.

Officials emphasized that IT will get greater visibility and control to provision applications from virtual servers to mobile devices for both cloud computing and data center environments. As part of the OneFabric Edge solution, Enterasys is introducing a new Wireless Services Engine or WiSE, a virtualized WLAN controller for application services,

Enterasys Networks, a Siemens (News - Alert) Enterprise Communications company, also announced that the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), a tradeshow and convention facility in Canada has picked Enterasys OneFabric Edge solution to support the complex wireless demands of MTCC’s exhibitors and attendees.

MTCC chose Enterasys Wireless to provide advanced management capabilities and differentiated service across its 600,000 square-foot facility.
