Wavelink Introduces Mobile Enterprise Application Platform
January 19, 2012

For mobile workers, running applications on-the-go on their mobile devices often becomes challenging, as legacy industrial browsers, originally meant for PCs, create serious connectivity problems. To help this situation, Wavelink (News - Alert) Corporation has launched Wavelink Velocity, a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP) tool designed to provide fast and reliable delivery of web-based applications to rugged mobile devices.

Traditional browsers, such as Windows Pocket IE, cannot support wireless connections. But Wavelink Velocity has been created with the needs of today’s wireless networks in mind, Wavelink Corporation further clarified.

Based on an efficient, open-source architecture, it is capable of rendering pages much faster than traditional mobile browsers and supports multiple mobile platforms including Windows, Windows Mobile, Windows CE, Android (News - Alert), iOS and Palm WebOS, according to its maker.

WaveLink Velocity claims to offer greater functionality and performance than what was previously available. Equipped with web designing tools, Velocity helps administrators to optimize HTML host screens without accessing the host application.

It works irrespective of roaming in and out of RF coverage or when the device reboots or goes to sleep. It also allows the users to move between Wi-Fi and 3G/4G coverage without interruption. Equipped with advanced scanner support, Wavelink Velocity also helps any application manipulate, validate and parse barcode scan data.

“Legacy industrial browsers were built for PCs, not for mobile computers, which created serious challenges with connectivity issues, the user interface and lack of scanner support. Wavelink Velocity is optimized for ruggedized mobile computers that are used in challenging mobile environments. This gives customers a much more reliable means of running their mission-critical applications on their mobile devices,” Mikkel Storm, senior product manager at Wavelink explained in a statement.

Wavelink Velocity will be available Q1 2012 through Wavelink and its partners. It is integrated with Wavelink Avalanche for easy delivery and management of the application across the enterprise.

In other news, Wavelink announced that its market-leading Wavelink Terminal Emulation (TE) will be the industry’s first and only to run on Android-based devices, including the highly anticipated Motorola (News - Alert) ET1 rugged enterprise tablet. This provides customers with additional options in mobile devices that can be used to connect to host systems in the warehouse and in the field.
