LightSquared (News - Alert) and Hometown Telecom have announced a wholesale agreement which will allow Hometown customers to receive branded broadband. Hometown Telecom is a carrier specializing in long distance plans from the throughout the world to India. LightSquared is a wholesale carrier building a nationwide wireless broadband network. For the first time, LightSquared has entered into an agreement with a carrier specializing in international services.
Hometown Telecom serves the non-resident Indian community under the IndiaLD brand, providing international long distance service to India is provided for over 65,000 subscribers. Hometown Telecom will be now able to offer its own wireless data, voice and other services over a variety of devices in collaboration with LightSquared.
In a release, David Schofield, president of Hometown Telecom, said, "With LightSquared, Hometown Telecom has a unique opportunity to provide our rapidly expanding base of tech-savvy subscribers with high-speed wireless data and voice services. Our customers have come to expect affordable long distance plans which are unmatched in quality of service, and now we can enhance our portfolio with access to LightSquared's competitively priced, state-of-the-art 4G network."
LightSquared has already entered into many wholesale agreements with a group of companies. These include wireless carriers, device manufacturers, nationwide retailers, regional phone companies, CLECs and mobile content providers. The agreement with Hometown Telecom is the 37th wholesale agreement for LightSquared.
According to Sanjiv Ahuja (News - Alert), chairman and CEO of LightSquared, affordable mobile broadband will be now accessible to consumers. Hometown Telecom already offers high-quality international long distance and other calling services. These services will be now complemented by mobile broadband.
Ahuja said, "This is another example of an innovative, fast-growing company that will use the LightSquared network to deliver exciting services to its customers, and establish a competitive edge in this highly competitive marketplace."
