TDA Boulder, Webroot Launch New Mobile Holiday Party Sobriety Test App
December 16, 2011

Advertising and design agency TDA Boulder and Internet security company Webroot announced the launch of a new mobile Holiday Party Sobriety Test app that provides people several coordination and cognition tests on their smartphones or tabs that are compatible with iOS 5 and Android (News - Alert) devices.

In a release Jonathan Schoenberg, creative director at TDA Boulder said, “We’re working with Webroot to offer this as a humorous reminder to anyone who's likely to enjoy beer, wine or spirits this holiday season but wants to avoid the over-sharing that can occur when he's had one too many.”

He added, “It’s a whole new world with Androids, iPhones, Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter, as many have learned to their peril.  The consequences of a stupid tweet or an ill-advised photo can be instantaneously spread around the globe. It’s our hope the Sobriety Tests will come to the aid of all who are in need of its protection.  Because we know nothing good happens online after 1 am.”

The Social Media Sobriety Test mobile app is expected to make holiday parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations more safe and enjoyable. A holiday-themed website has been designed to make people think twice before tweeting, posting or following through on any poor decision that they may make after a lively holiday.

In case the scores turn out to be low, the app will advise people to think twice before their next move and offer search results for a nearby cab company located based on the caller’s phone’s geo-location capabilities.

Officials explained that the Webroot Social Media Sobriety Test launched last year is a browser plug-in that prevents “under-the-influence” posting on sites including Facebook, MySpace (News - Alert), Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and Tumblr, as well as custom URLs (like blogs) and/or Web-based email accounts such as Gmail or Hotmail.

It also allows users to customize which sites they want to block and at which hours of the day or night are personally vulnerable times.  Users must pass one of a variety of randomly selected sobriety tests for gaining access to their social media. Browser compatibility includes Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

Webroot recently announced the appointment of Mel Morris as chief technology officer. Morris is responsible for driving strategic advancements to the company’s cloud-based security services and delivery platforms based on Webroot SecureAnywhere technology.
