Fluke Networks' Announces Upgraded Version of AirMagnet Spectrum XT
December 14, 2011

Fluke Networks (News - Alert) recently made an announcement of a brand new version of AirMagnet Spectrum XT. This is said to provide cutting edge interference identification and classification capabilities. It will bring down the work of wireless LAN (WLAN) engineers' in tracking down devices that prevent enterprise WLANs from functioning appropriately. A new feature of Auto Pattern Detection will bring to the forefront unclassified repeating spectrum patterns from non-WLAN Radio Frequency (RF) interference sources. With this, engineers will have the ability to create quite simply, custom signatures for future alerts. This will help one identify the sources of interference, bringing down the time and the cost that goes with troubleshooting. AirMagnet (News - Alert) Spectrum XT will then scan, alert and report on the earlier identified interference sources on its own.

In a release, Chia-Chee Kuan, Vice President of the Fluke Networks WLAN business unit said, "In a recent customer survey, 82 percent tell us they're encountering WLAN performance problems caused by non-WLAN sources of interference – and 63 percent are not able to identify the source. Spectrum (News - Alert) XT analyzer's ability to automatically detect unknown RF interference patterns and give engineers the tools to create customized signatures for future alerts is directly targeted at resolving this issue and saves IT staff time and money."

Experts believe that these enhanced RF interference troubleshooting abilities are gradually working well. Finding sources of interference that can impact WLAN say experts, is an ongoing challenge. The zero-day detection capability that is available in Spectrum XT allows one to remove any guesswork from the equation in these versions of non-WLAN interference. It helps one classify them so that they can be immediately identified and remediated at a later date.

Kuan said, "With Wi-Fi use growing 35 percent each year in the U.S. alone, and with the incredible increase in the number of devices that can cause WLAN interference, we couldn't be more excited about bringing the next generation of Spectrum XT to market for our customers.  Whether our IT management customers are racing to identify unknown devices, identifying known devices and addressing them, or reporting out overall issues with an easy, integrated reporting function, these upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure we're helping them meet the latest challenges head-on."
