The Senegal: Broadband Deployment, Competition and Innovation Spur Market Evolution report by Pyramid Research provides an analysis of the fixed and mobile sectors in Senegal by tracking and monitoring the market shares and spread of new technologies.
According to the report, Senegal has been depicted as an advanced mobile market in West Africa, which has immense potential for growth. This is evident from the mobile services penetration rates that are expected to soar to 93 percent in 2016 from 65 percent at the end of 2010.
Mobile subscriptions also experienced growth as the subscriber base increased by 56 percent to reach 8.3 million at the end of 2010.
The projected growth is attributed to rise in broadband penetration, increased pricing competition among the three network operators and the entry of a fourth operator in 2012.
In a press release, Pyramid Research Associate Research Analyst Ronda Zelezny-Green said,
"From 2011-2016, Pyramid expects mobile revenue to increase at a CAGR of 4 percent to $1.1 billion in 2016, mainly because of the rise in broadband penetration and increased pricing competition among the three mobile network operators.”
Green indicated that the possible entry of a fourth operator in 2012 would drive operator experimentation that would intensify competition and increase innovative service offering and development of existing network coverage. Broadband subscriptions were projected to grow at a CAGR of 7 percent, reaching 13.9 million by 2016.
For nearly 25 years, Pyramid Research has been providing practical advice on emerging market and service opportunities to leaders in the converged communications, media and technology industries.
