Proofpoint Launches Application Suite for Mobiles
March 17, 2011

Proofpoint Inc. has launched Proofpoint (News - Alert) Mobile, an applications suite that extends the company's leading email security, compliance and archiving solutions to mobile devices. Proofpoint Mobile is based on Proofpoint CloudControl, security and compliance platform. It is delivered via native applications or web-based applications that are optimized for mobile devices. Proofpoint Mobile enables enterprises to quickly and easily integrate secure and compliant mobile communications into their organizations using scalable and cost-effective cloud-based applications.

The features of Proofpoint Mobile include Proofpoint Mobile Encryption, Proofpoint Mobile Archive and Proofpoint Mobile Dashboard. Proofpoint Mobile Encryption enables policy-based data encryption and decryption capabilities and reduces the risks associated with regulatory and corporate policy violations and data loss. Proofpoint Mobile Archive enables the user to search for any email across past many years. With Proofpoint Mobile Dashboard, the IT support staff can instantly access Proofpoint's security and Call Tracking System (CTS (News - Alert)) information from anywhere and at anytime. The global spam effectiveness, deployment statistics and customer tracking tickets can be viewed using this feature.

In a release, Phil Hochmuth, program manager of IDC's (News - Alert) Security Products research group, said that, “Corporate employees want instant access to data and applications from any device, anywhere and at any time. IT groups are pressured from below and above -- from employees and executives -- to allow usage of employee-owned smartphones, tables and laptops with internal IT systems. However, IT organizations are struggling to find the right approach to secure these consumerized devices. Many enterprise security teams now regard cloud-based security technology as the best approach to provide effective security controls that allow non-corporate mobile devices to mix safely with enterprise networks, applications and data.”

Kenneth Johnston, CIO and vice president of information systems at Guaranty Bank, said that “The Proofpoint mobile application with decrypt assist from Proofpoint has been on Guaranty Bank's wish list. What I am really excited about is that Proofpoint mobile encryption can run on a variety of smartphones. Our users have many different types of mobile phones, and the one-click access to decrypt messages makes this a very seamless process for them.”

In related news, Proofpoint enhanced its Proofpoint Email Archiving solution with a new capability that allows mobile employees to utilize the archive search function directly from Microsoft (News - Alert) Outlook Web Access. With this new feature, IT managers and e-mail end-users can locate important e-mail messages and attachments using any Web-enabled device supported by Outlook Web Access anytime anywhere, the company said.
