Verizon Wireless Adds New Cell Site in Indian Lake to Expand Network in Hamilton County

Every year, Verizon Wireless announces aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment in order to stay ahead of the growing demand for its voice and data services.

As part of this investment, Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless recently announced the expansion of 3G-network coverage in Hamilton County.

According to Verizon Wireless, the latest network expansion in Hamilton County will not only provide access to 3G wireless broadband service but also improves coverage and capacity in Indian Lake.

Officials with the company said in a press release that the company expanded its local coverage with a new cell site in Indian Lake. The new site improves coverage and capacity along Route 28, Route 30 and Hedges Road in the Adirondack Park Preserve.

Gene Fassett, executive director of Network for Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region, said, "We've always believed even the most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on. We continue to aggressively invest in our Upstate New York network to increase coverage and capacity for our customers, add new services, and maintain our 3G network leadership."

Some of the services included in this new expansion include wireless data services such as picture messaging, text messaging, V CAST and V CAST Music with Rhapsody, and the company's high-speed wireless broadband network - MobileBroadband.

The network expansion Hamilton County will also provide average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second, and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps, to Verizon users.

To date, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $60 billion nationwide, on average $5.7 billion every year, and has invested more than $100 million in Upstate New York in 2009, say officials.

Apart from Hamilton County, Verizon Wireless has also expanded its 3G network recently in Essex County, Clinton County, and Guilford, Connecticut.
