Sichuan to See CNY40bn Wireless Construction in 3 Years

CHENGDU, Mar 12, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- A 2G/3G/WAPI wireless network blueprint for 2010 to 2012 oriented to Sichuan, a populous province in west China, has been recently unveiled by Sichuan Provincial Government, according to the Sichuan Communications Administration.

Wireless communications infrastructure construction will firstly be built in five local cities such as Chengdu, Mianyang, Deyang, Leshan, and Meishan. After the completion, the program is expected to offer wireless broadband access service to 34 million mobile users and 6 million wireless broadband users; and the province will reach a wireless service coverage of 99% in these appointed cities, with a communications speed of 5M to 10M.

The above five cities are predicted to upgrade their communications network technology to the Long Term Evolution (LTE) in 2012, an improvement to higher-speed broadband access and 3G network service.

The three-year wireless program is estimated to involve investments of CNY 40 billion in the aggregate, including CNY 15 billion in 2010, CNY 13.5 billion in 2011, and CNY 11.5 billion in 2012. Chengdu, the capital city of the province, will involve a total investment of CNY 7.47 billion in three years. In additionally, the program will encompass the building of 45,000 3G cell towers and 27,000 WLAN hot spots.
