China Is Said to Take 43mn 3G Cellphone Sales in 2010

BEIJING, Mar 12, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Mainland China is expected to reach a 3G cellphone sales volume of 35 million to 43 million in the full year 2010, accounting for 12% to 15% of its total cellphone sales volume, citing a market forecast report.

As one of the mainland's three 3G carriers, China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA, SEHK: 0728), has started an aggressive move for Chinese 3G users since late February 2010, planning to purchase 5 million CDMA cellphones.

China Telecom aims to sell 30 million cellphones with the 3G "e surfing" brand this year, said Ma Daojie, general manager of the China Telecom Mobile Terminal Management Center. In addition, China Telecom is to enlarge its CDMA user base to 100 million in 2010.

In 2009, citing another report, the mainland had a TD-SCDMA cellphone sales volume of 15 million to 20 million, a CDMA 2000 EV-DO cellphone sales volume of 10 million to 12 million, and a WCDMA cellphone sales volume of 10 million to 12 million.

However, the Chinese consulting firm CCID Consulting Co., Ltd. (SEHK: 8235) said in its report that the mainland took a 3G cellphone sales volume of just 11.224 million last year.
